The MUST initiative was launched on 20 June. Some 80 people attended the opening conference held in the Amsterdam Scheepvaartmuseum with, at the end, a presentation of the Must Marine website that will be further developed during the next few weeks. MUST Marine is aiming to be the prime knowledge centre for research and advice in the field of technological and applied oceanography and marine ecology.
Combining three institutes – IMARES Wageningen UR, NIOZ and TNO – means that up-to-date and state-of-the-art knowhow and research facilities are guaranteed. As MUST has access to global networks, it is an ideal knowledge partner for corporate bodies and governments.
MUST Marine signifies:
- Optimally integrated national Maritime Knowledge Infrastructure: smart mix of knowledge and skills
- Innovation and new knowledge for judicious exploration and exploitation of marine resources: transport, energy, food, raw material extraction, materials.
- Making connections
- For & With: corporate world & policymakers
